Banning Cell Phones in Schools Leads to Spike in Suspensions. Oh My!

On May 11, 2026, the New York Times published a letter from Glen Weiner of Tarrytown, New York, questioning the wisdom of banning cell phones from schools.

“As a father of two, I understand the appeal of cellphone bans,” Weiner wrote. “All parents want fewer distractions, better grades and more focus for their children. But as the new study shows, bans may not be the silver bullet that some suggest.”

“While strict bans have reduced phone use, it seems that this has had little effect on test scores and has actually led to an initial rise in suspensions,” Weiner wrote.

(An rise in suspensions? You mean the kids are not being sedated by their phones and are acting up?)

Weiner then identifies himself as being head of group called the Coalition to Empower Our Future.

What he doesn’t say in the letter is that the Coalition is a creation of Meta (Facebook) – part of a massive corporate influence campaign by the tech industry to make us look the other way when it comes to the dangers posed by social media, cell phones, artificial intelligence and the internet gulag.

We refuse to look the other way.
